Prologue

They said the old Carrington estate was haunted. Perched on a lonely hill outside of town, it had been left abandoned for decades, the windows dark and doors locked, until now. No one remembered the last time a Carrington lived there, but everyone knew the stories.

Chapter 1: The Inheritance

Ellie never imagined herself the heir to anything, much less a sprawling, decaying mansion. But when a letter from an unknown relative arrived, informing her of her inheritance, she couldn’t resist the pull of curiosity. She needed answers.

"Are you really going to live there?" her friend Max asked, eyebrows raised.

Ellie shrugged, brushing the dust off an old photo she found in the parlor. "Why not? It’s… intriguing."

"Just don’t start hearing things," Max warned, but Ellie laughed it off. That night, though, the silence felt heavier than she’d expected.

Chapter 2: Shadows in the Night

The house creaked and groaned as Ellie explored the winding corridors. Shadows danced on the walls, and her footsteps echoed, making her feel like she was never truly alone.

"Hello?" she whispered, though she knew no one was there.

But just as she turned to leave, a faint sound – almost a whisper – caught her attention. She froze, listening.

"Help… me…"

She spun around, but no one was there. Just the empty hallway stretching into darkness.

Chapter 3: The Hidden Key

The next day, Ellie started searching the rooms more carefully. In the library, she discovered an old diary belonging to her great-grandmother, Lydia Carrington.

"If I could just find the key… then everything might make sense," one of the entries read, cryptically.

Ellie couldn’t shake the feeling that something was hidden in the house, something Lydia wanted her to find. But where?

Chapter 4: What Lies Beneath

Late one night, Ellie noticed a loose floorboard in the attic. Heart pounding, she pried it open, revealing a small, rusted key. It was as if the house itself had led her here.

As she picked up the key, the whispering returned, louder this time. Her surroundings seemed to blur, and she felt like she was falling into darkness.

"Find me… before it’s too late…"

Chapter 5: The Final Revelation

The key led Ellie to a hidden door in the basement, concealed behind layers of wallpaper. Inside was a small room, untouched by time. Dusty relics lay scattered, and in the center stood a single portrait – of Lydia Carrington.

But the portrait’s eyes… they seemed almost alive, staring back at her with a desperate plea. And as Ellie reached out, she understood: Lydia wasn’t just a part of her past – she was trapped here, waiting for release.

Epilogue

They say that Ellie left town soon after that, selling the Carrington estate and never looking back. But every so often, a light flickers in the attic window, and on quiet nights, if you listen closely, you might just hear the whispers of Lydia Carrington, calling out for anyone brave enough to listen.
